Cast - Tempest 2007

David Ritchie - Prospero

David has worked as an actor and director for 30 odd years in Australia, South Africa and England. Mostly on the fringes, mostly in theatre. He’s directed Lear before, but last directed Hamlet with Angela Bauer in the title role. He’s also lectured extensively on Shakespeare, here & overseas, but hopes that this will not be held against him.

Gertraud Ingeborg - Antonia/Ariel's Minister/Juno

Gertraud has been working for the stage as an actress, director and producer since 1986. She has many leading roles to her credit including Mother Courage in Mother Courage, Merteuil in Quartet, Mary Stuart in Mary Stuart (Sydney, New York), the Psychiatrist in a recent Canadian production of The Kabbalistic Psychoanalysis of Adam R. Tzaddik at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. She played Gertrude in Hamlet and Rosenkrantz & Guildenstern are Dead (Bondi Pavilion), Malvolio in Twelfth Night (New Theatre), Mrs Snelgrave in One Flea Spare (2004, Belvoir St Downstairs), appeared in Thyestes and This Little Piggy (2004/05 STC Wharf 2), worked in Italy, Bolzano, (Theater im Hof) playing the mother in (Night Mother) (2005) and did her first one-woman show Oskar and the Lady in Pink (2006). Gertraud directed Siberia (Lookout Theatre), The Bald Prima Donna (Manly Theatre), Punch and Judy (Sidetrack and Manly Theatre) and Ritter, Dene, Voss (New Theatre). Her film credits include a leading role in the popular film, Fifteen Amore.

As a producer for Harlos Productions Gertraud has brought many European plays to the Sydney audiences including Stallerhof, Quartet, Shakespeare in the Sex Shop, Visiting Hours and Bedford Drive 1941. In the last five years Gertraud concentrated on plays by Shakespeare with very successful seasons at the Bondi Pavilion.

 

Sara Zwangobani - Miranda/Trinculo

Sara’s first performance saw her run off stage crying after she forgot her lines!  Despite this less than auspicious start at age 6, she pursued a career in acting.  She has since appeared in numerous theatre shows including The Crucible at the Sydney Theatre Company, Imago at Downstairs Belvoir and Cloud 9 at the Darlinghurst Theatre Company.  She has also had recurring roles on All Saints, Home and Away and Love My Way, and in several US television series.  In film her performances include the lead in the feature film The Merchant Of Fairness, and she most recently appeared opposite John Malkovich in Disgrace

 

Vincent Hooper - Ariel

Having just moved from Perth to Sydney, Vincent is already making his mark in the East. So far in Sydney, he has performed in the William Finn musical Elegies in the Richard Wherrett Studio at the Sydney Theatre, the Sydney Theatre company’s All Star Cabaret, the 2006 Premier’s Christmas Concert at the entertainment centre, Whopper at statement s Cabaret room, the Australian premiere of Blowing Whistles, playing Mark, Short Sweet and Songs Life’s a Circus and Channel 7’s Carols in the Domain. In Perth, Vincent has worked for the W.A. Opera, hosted numerous corporate functions, performed his Cabaret, Express to Success and appeared in Me and My Girl and Cavalcade, both at His Majesties Theatre.

A recent graduate of WAAPA, his stage credits there include Crazy for You, Bobbin Up, Sweet Charity, Pal Joey, and the demanding title role in Batboy, the musical.

Lee Jones - Sebastian/Ariel's Minister/Iris

Lee is a graduate of Theatre Nepean 2003. Productions included ‘A Winter’s Tale’, ‘Tales from the Couch’, ‘Road and the Jungle’. Other credits include Gumption Über Theatre’s ‘The Europeans’ - Darlinghurst Theatre’s in the Raw season 20005 – PACT, ‘Our Town’ and ‘The Tempest’ – New Theatre ‘Howard the Arselicker’ – Seymour Centre, ‘Baby with the Bathwater’ – Sidetrack, ‘La Musica’ – Newtown Theatre, Siren Theatre Company’s ‘Duck’ for B Sharp, ‘Titus’ – in the Raw 2006, ‘Street Football’ – Yoram Gross Channel 7. Following ‘Lear’ Lee will appear in ‘The Merchant of Venice’ for B Sharp.

Tom O'Sullivan - Ferdinand/Caliban/Bootswain

Peter Kowitz - Alonso/Stephano

2007 mark’s Peter’s 35 years as a performer in Australian theatre film and television. He has over 60 theatre credits including work with the Queensland theatre Company, Melbourne theatre Co., State theatre of S.A., Black Swan, Ensemble, Griffin, Nimrod, Belvoir, Railway Street, Pork Chop, East Coast and Darlinghurst theatre. His most recent theatre work includes George in the State Theatre of S.A. production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” and as Ted Vogler in “The Young Tycoons” at the Darlinghurst theatre. Peter has appeared in almost every major Australian television series of the last 25 years and has been three times nominated for an A.F.I. award, winning Best Actor for the mini-series “Body Surfer” and Best Actor again for the tele-film “The Long Way Home”. He has also received a Variety Club Heart Award for television performance. Most recently he has been a guest in “McCloud’s Daughters” and the regular character max in the BBC/FOX comedy “Supernova” series 1&2. He has been a member of equity since 11/02/1975.
