Belle of the Cross

In October, Harlos Productions, the company known for its innovative, cutting edge theatre, invites you to walk the streets of the Cross with Belle. Like the dawn birds of the Cross who scavenge among the refuse left over from the night’s ecstatic rites, Belle is a connoisseur of the pavement. Fecund ground she calls it, stained with life’s residue. Blood, dirt, rubbish, condoms and bird shit.
 
Up Darlinghurst, down Roslyn, left into Ward, past the fountain…Belle recites her litany. The winters get colder though, while Belle waits for the thief, who stole her money, and with it her life, to be caught. How many winters has ageing, homeless Belle left?
  
Belle of the Cross, is the world premiere of a new show by Angelika Fremd, author of novels, poems and stories. Angelika scripted and directed performances based on the work of the Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann for the Goethe Institut and the Lookout Theatre. In 2003 she scripted the Words off the Wall multimedia performance staged at the Darlinghurst Theatre as part of the Kings Cross Festival. 

With a gutsy and sensitive incarnation of Belle by Gertraud Ingeborg, and the spectre of Fleur the stripper by the lovely Abigail Austin, this is a performance piece not to be missed. Set & lights by Tony Youlden, costumes by Kim Scott, choreography by Elizabeth Burton and M&E by John Blake, this experience is directed by David Ritchie.
